The public has been urged to ‘watch out’ for dangerous caterpillars this Summer when out and about in the countryside.
Wokingham Borough Council has issued a warning after spotting oak processionary moth (OPM) caterpillars throughout Berkshire.
They said: “OPM caterpillars are a tree pest and dangerous to people and pets. Keep away from any OPM caterpillars and their nests.
“Don’t touch them.”
According to experts, these caterpillars and their nests will only be found on oak trees or on the ground near infested oak trees.
If you see any on your travels, the Forestry Commission has asked for you to report where they are.
According to one reader, a group of them were found in Maidenhead Thicket.
