A much-loved community pub in the heart of Wokingham Town Centre is set to reopen after an exciting refurbishment.

Located on Denmark Street, the Dukes Head is a grade II listed building and public house with an established customer base.

After being taken over by a husband and wife, the pub will reopen this Summer to the excitement of the local community.

Claire and Ed are documenting their journey on social media as they transform the current ‘filthy’ building into a place where people can come and enjoy a pint and a fun night with friends.

In a TikTok video in May, Claire said: “Hello my name’s Claire and along with my husband Ed we’ve just taken over this pub The Dukes Head. As you can see it's pretty historic and it’s pretty filthy at the moment, but little by little we’re just doing some lovely things to it to make it look shiny and new again.

“Like these windows…Scary. The chalkboards have been given a new lease of life ready to be drawn on with all the lovely events we’ve already got coming."

The couple have received messages of support from the local community and have said that they are looking forward to welcoming people to enjoy a tipple.

Improvements at the pub will include a complete refurb of their windows which will be transformed by specialists to secure them for years to come.

Claire said: “We hope the weather starts to improve as we are looking forward to making our garden look bright and colourful for you all.

“We have already found some lovely little plants after cutting back weeds and have been adding some seedlings too.”

The new owners have stated that the opening date will be announced soon.
