This is the face of Desley Nuptial, the British Army veteran who killed a father-of-five while drink-driving in Ascot.

Nuptial, 39, was driving a Mercedes which collided head-on with a car driven by Choudhry Saqib Ashraf.

Mr Ashraf, a successful car trader and father-of-five, was killed instantly.

Reading Crown Court heard today (June 3) that the victim, from Maidenhead, was expecting another child at the time of his death.

His funeral in Pakistan attracted around 14,000 mourners.

Nuptial was tested by police at the scene, and was found to be more than twice over the legal drink-drive limit.

Despite this, he had been travelling with four passengers - three of them children.

None of the passengers had their seatbelts on, and they also sustained injuries.

In a mugshot taken just after the crash, Nuptial is shown with visible injuries to his face.

Judge Sarah Campbell jailed him for for nine years and nine months, after he pleaded guilty to drink-driving and causing death by dangerous driving.

Senior investigating officer Detective Sergeant Darren Brown, from Thames Valley Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The manner of Nuptial’s driving was absolutely shocking, and the fact he had children in his car as well exacerbated this.

"Tragically, as a direct result of him driving at speed, under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop at red traffic signals, he collided with Mr Ashraf’s vehicle and caused him injuries which resulted in his death.

"My thoughts and the thoughts of all of us remain with Mr Ashraf’s family and friends who have shown great dignity and patience while we brought this case to court.

"Driving while unfit through drink and speeding are two of the fatal four, and we will never tolerate such reckless behaviour on our roads.

"Nuptial will now have to serve a prison sentence, where I hope he reflects on his decision-making which led to this needless and avoidable tragedy."
