Bracknell Forest Council has once again partnered with renewable energy experts iChoosr in a bid to deliver affordable solar options for households and small businesses throughout the area.

The Solar Together group-buying scheme - which, in 2023, brought renewable energy to 135 households - is being revived for a second year.

Solar Together's online portal links potential buyers to UK suppliers of solar facilities, who compete to offer panels at affordable prices.

This takes the form of a 'reverse auction' by suppliers, with the portal ensuring that customers get the chapest offer.

Damian James, the council's assistant director for contract services, said: "We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and encouraging residents to do the same.

"After the success of last year's scheme, we are keen to reach more people and show them the benefits of renewable energy at home.

"By participating in this group-buying scheme, residents can not only save on their energy bills but also contribute to a more sustainable future."

iChoosr - which oversees the scheme - says that it has arranged for the installation of 10,734 solar panels in Berkshire alone.

It also claims to have slashed carbon emissions by 20,415 tons over the past 25 years.

Marie-Louise Abretti, Solar Together UK's business manager, stated: "With energy prices fluctuating, residents are looking for opportunities to reduce their carbon emissions, save on energy bills, and increase their independence from the grid.

"The Solar Together group-buying scheme offers a straightforward way to make an informed decision and to access a competitive offer from a trusted, vetted provider."
