A third new contractor has been appointed to complete the Carnival Place flats in Wokingham town centre – after the last two both went bust.

Some 55 homes were supposed to have been ready for people to move in during September last year as part of initial council plans to redevelop Carnival Hub on Wellington Road in Wokingham.

But construction ground to a halt when the company building the flats – The Mid Group – went into administration in 2022.

Wokingham Borough Council then announced in February this year that it had appointed Osborne Ltd to finish the job. But that firm went into administration in April this year.

Osborne said it had suffered due to ‘high inflation, the lingering impacts of COVID-19 and Brexit, and a slowdown in public sector procurement.’

The local authority has now announced that Newbury-based firm Feltham Construction has been appointed as the latest contractor, in an email newsletter to residents.

The council said: “A new contractor has been appointed to see the Carnival Place development in Wokingham through to completion.

“Feltham Construction, a Newbury-based firm with more than 50 years of experience, has been chosen to work on the project, which will see 55 apartments built.”

It added: “The appointment of Feltham Construction became necessary after the previous contractor went into administration.”
