BETTING scandals, an insult to D-Day and debates between the two men wanting to be the country’s next prime minister descending into shouting matches.

I don’t know about you but this has felt like a long, and at times, shambolic general election campaign, writes editor Katie French. But it will soon all be over and we can return to our lives and our summers.

In this week’s News, you will find the final instalment of our General Election interviews, where our hardworking journalists have attempted to interview every candidate standing across our region to give you the chance to get to know the people behind the names on the ballot paper.

If the predictions are anything to go by, there are major changes afoot across the country, including here in Bracknell, Wokingham and Ascot, where the Conservatives are expected to lose seats they have held for decades - and in some cases, for their entire history.

Whatever changes lie ahead, you can count on The News to bring you trusted, local news as it happens, both in print and online. Our reporters Ruth Lucas and Nicole McBride will be leading the election coverage across Thursday evening and into Friday morning. We will be running a live blog on our website so make sure you bookmark our homepage to get the latest news and results as they happen.
