A BOLD and ‘impactful’ street art mural could be coming to Thames Valley Park.

International street artist, Captain Kris, has been commissioned by park owners to paint the railway bridge upon the entrance.

The proposal ‘highlights the unique meeting point of leisure, nature and business’ as the first in a serious of art installations around the park.

Developers say they want to bring the ‘bridge to life with impactful creativity’.

As the bridge is not owned by the park – technically owned by national rail - there is a requirement for approval from Wokingham Borough Council subject to sight of the artwork.

The location is covered by WBC which has received the planning application and is set to consult on the decision until the end of July.

The artist, known as Captain Kris, is influenced by comics, cartoons and popular culture in his work. He is from New Zealand but is now based in London, and has worked around the world.

Kristian Douglas has ‘a great understanding of the transformative power of large murals to create brighter and more inviting spaces to engage with the community’.

Owners say they have already worked hard to improve the existing arrival with trees, solar lighting, roundabout enhancements and new signage.

Thames Valley Park is a high-tech business park adjacent to the River Thames in the east of Reading. Companies based at the park include BBC Radio Berkshire, Microsoft and Oracle.

It also offers amenities like David Lloyd sports facilities, three cafes and the Wokingham Waterside centre.
