Royal Ascot Golf Course has seen its junior participation increase six-fold in the last three seasons.
Now with the summer holidays almost upon us, the club have teamed up with Taylor Wimpey to launch its 2024 summer camps, designed for youngsters of all abilities and ages as part of its campaign to encourage people to get active.
Junior participation at the club has surged from 20 to 116 over the past three years. The growth has been largely down to the club’s inclusivity focus, plus its buddy scheme and academy, both of which have been recognised by the England Golf Awards.
The sponsorship initiative has been designed to help elevate coaching provisions at the club, with the goal of establishing a scholarship programme. Additionally, it seeks to improve transportation arrangements for competitions and develop connections with local schools.
The proceeds generated from the camps will be allocated towards funding upcoming junior activities and competitions, ensuring sustained support for youth development in golf.
David Nickson, assistant professional golf coach at Royal Ascot Golf Club, said: “The summer camps are the perfect environment for juniors looking to get involved in the sport or improve their game.
"The supportive sessions are designed to ensure juniors have fun while learning the fundamentals of golf.”
Each session begins with a short meet and greet followed by a trip to the driving range and a putting lesson. After enjoying a hot lunch, golfers will proceed to the course for a game.
Stephen Nicholson, general manager at Royal Ascot Golf Club, said: "It’s an exciting time at the club as the season hits its peak period, so it’s an ideal time to welcome more juniors into the sport.
“Our thanks go to Taylor Wimpey whose support has enabled us to create a fantastic summer camp programme that will help more juniors to get active and play golf.
“We’re committed to encouraging more youngsters to take up golf and the summer camps are the next step in the delivery of our inclusion strategy.”
The first camp session will take place on Tuesday, July 16 and will finish on August 30. Each session costs £45, with £80 for two days, and just £150 for four days.
