POLICE are investigating three reports of arson in four months at Silva Homes garages in Bracknell.

This comes after residents of Merryhill Road in Bracknell reported feeling 'unsafe' and claim the police 'aren't doing anything about it'.

The latest blaze took place in two garages at approximately 2am on Wednesday, July 31.

According to Brian Ackroyd, five fires have taken place in the last five months in garages that are set for demolition for Silva Homes, the developers who run the estate. The company want to build more housing – a move that has proved unpopular with residents.

Mr Ackroyd, 67, criticised that the ‘police aren’t doing anything about it’, and simply told him to take up the issue to Bracknell Forest Council.

A Thames Valley Police (TVP) spokesperson confirmed: “We received three reports of arsons in Merryhill Road, Bracknell, from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service; at around 3:20am yesterday (31/7), at around 8:30pm on June 17, and at around 5:10pm on April 6.

These reports have been filed pending further information coming to light.”

The force added that the local neighbourhood policing team is ‘aware of the arsons’ and that they ‘take arsons extremely seriously’.

While residents told the News there was another fire on February 20 that was not reported to the police.

The garages have become a hotspot for fly-tipping and antisocial behaviour, according to people living in the area.

TVP declined to comment regarding the complaint from Mr Ackroyd, and reminded that members of the public can make a complaint through their formal procedure.

Silva Homes and Bracknell Forest Council have also been approached for comment.

TVP has said that anyone with further information should call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43240364478.
