A care home in Sandhurst could become flats after plans were submitted to Bracknell Forest Council.

Pal Real Estate want to turn Crossways Residential Care Home on Yorktown Road in Sandhurst into six flats after the site became unfit for care home use.

The home for the elderly closed its doors in 2018 after new care home regulations came into force. Rule changes meant that the then 10-bed home could no longer operate due to ‘physical constraints’.

The new flats would consist of a three-bed, two two-bed and three single-bed properties. Existing access to the building would be closed, and a cycle and bin store would be built outside. They would also like to replace the existing garden rooms with a roof, and a loft for two of the flats.

Developers would also like to build a small extension to the sides and rear of the building – but this has received an objection from a neighbour.

In the objection to Bracknell Forest Council, the neighbour wrote that the addition of a gate to the side of the property that faces theirs ‘fails to take into account the width available of such an entrance’.

They added that the drawings show that a loft extension will have an ‘intrusive’ direct line of sight into an upstairs bedroom in his home.

Bracknell Forest Council has received and validated the application, but a decision is yet to be made. The application can be found by searching their planning portal with the application reference 24/00446/FUL.
