Bracknell’s new MP is hiring a £52,000 per year role as part of setting up his office in the town.

Peter Swallow, Labour MP for Bracknell, posted the advertisement for an office manager and constituency worker on social media in July.

The office manager role can be paid between £32,000 and £52,000 subject to experience, and will work to ‘help establish and lead a team in a never-before Labour constituency’.

The manager would need to ‘make sure that it is established and rooted in serving the community’. Responsibilities for this role include overseeing the management of complex constituency cases, manage his diary and budget responsibilities.

The case worker role would principally help constituents with issues and would be paid between £22,000 and £36,000, also depending on prior experience.

The job advertisement says that the case worker should help ‘establish exceptional protocols that are rooted in serving the community’.

The Labour member is interviewing this week, ready for staff to start as soon as possible before Parliament resumes in September.

Both roles would be based in the constituency, rather than in Parliament. Many MPs usually have a mixture of staff working in Westminster as well as the community they serve.

Without any staff as of yet, Mr Swallow said shortly after being elected : “I am working hard to set up my office as quickly as possible, but please be patient with me as this will take a few weeks.

“I will be prioritising urgent case work during this period.”
