A ‘bad accident’ is bound to happen around Martins Heron station due to ‘dangerous’ levels of parking, a resident has warned.
The 83-year-old resident, who didn’t want to be named, has said that parking in the surrounding has become ‘awful’ due to roads being clogged up by commuters.
Cars are frequently left all day between Long Hill Road and Millman Close and on Lily Hill Road, according to the woman.
She said that it was getting ‘worse and worse’ and that often only one lane is left for drivers. She warned: “As things are it won’t be long before there is a bad accident.”
But these roads are located ‘nowhere near’ the train station – with Lily Hill Road a 20-minute walk away.
Martins Heron station has a small car park with about 30 spaces available on a first come first serve basis. Commuters are unable to use the neighbouring Tesco’s car park due to time restrictions.
Many Facebook users recommend using neighbouring Ascot or Bracknell stations, which are on the same line as Martins Heron, due to the lack of parking.
The local, who has lived in the area since 1969, has complained to Bracknell Highways about the issue, who told her that it would take up to six weeks before a review is done.
She said that this ‘seems an awful long time to look at it’.
Cllr Guy Gillbe, executive member for planning, transport and countryside, said: “The council does not have responsibility for Martins Heron train station but will undertake enforcement on the surrounding roads where restrictions are in place.
“Where concerns are raised, we will monitor and assess if other restrictions are required.”
He added that Bracknell Forest Council welcomes feedback from residents.
On the roads highlighted by the residents, Cllr Gillbe said: “There are currently no traffic regulation orders in Millman Close or Long Hill Road, therefore cars can park them without any restriction.”
Lily Hill Road has restrictions outside Holly Spring School, according to Cllr Gillbe. Some areas are marked with no waiting at any time, while others are marked with no waiting time on Monday to Friday during school hours. He added that these were enforced by parking management contractors.
Other residents in the area were less worried about the issue. One living on Long Hill Road said that those parking were working at the Mercedes Benz store, not people parking for the station.
