The Gig House is set to be replaced with a new independent business opening at the end of August.

The Gig House Pub in The Plaza, Denmark Street closed it’s doors in July after nearly 20 years of service in Wokingham.

Now, a brand-new social hub called DEN 42 is taking over the premises, officially launching on August 31.

DEN 42 says that they will provide an experience ‘unlike anything Wokingham has ever seen before’, including food and drinks as well as shuffleboards, interactive darts systems and board games. They have partnered with SoBe Burger, which serves ‘Miami style’ burgers as well as fried chicken and loaded friends.

A free burger and a complimentary pint of Siren Craft Brew beer will be available for the first 42 customers at the launch event, at 12pm on Saturday, August 31.

Those attending will also receive a game voucher for shuffleboard or interactive darts.

Owners told Wokingham Today that they are ‘committed to supporting and collaborating with independent suppliers, musicians, artists and local businesses’.

It is replacing the Gig House, which has been a major part of Wokingham’s night life. Formerly a JD Wetherspoons, it was taken over by entrepreneur Robert Butcher in 2018.

Mr Butcher decided to close following a challenging six years, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic and rising cost of living.

The Gig House had a closing party on Saturday, July 13 – before staying open for another day to broadcast the final of the Euros.

Owners expressed their 'deepest gratitude' to customers and for being a 'beloved part of Wokingham's fabric'.
