Ye Old Leaterne Bottel pub in Barkham has had an application to introduce accommodation on its premises refused by Wokingham Borough Council.
Pub owners wanted to build 13 rooms for accommodation with associated changes to access and parking. Along with this, they wanted to make major changes to the internal layout, including a remodelling of the kitchen and seating area.
In the decision notice, council officers said that the proposal would have a detrimental impact on the character and appearance of the area, particularly the green route of Barkham Road.
The plans also received dozens of objections written by residents who worried that it would negatively impact traffic.

This comes despite a recommendation for refusal from Winkfield Parish Council and 19 objections from neighbours, who were concerned that it will be overbearing and result a loss of privacy.
