A large office block in Wokingham Without could be converted into more than 100 flats.

Plans submitted to Wokingham Borough Council by agents for owners Legal and General Assurance (Pensions Management) Ltd show a bid to turn Johnson & Johnson offices into 109 apartments.

The apartments would be a mixture of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments.

Located to the southeast of Wokingham, it is nearby Nine Mile Ride and Pinewood Leisure Centre, used by a range of community clubs and societies. It is approximately four kilometres to Wokingham Town centre, and surrounded by fields and other residential areas.

The plans do not include any external alternations of the site.

Agents admitted in plans submitted to the council that public transport access is limited, with the nearest bus stop located 320m east of the site.

The closest railway station would be Crowthorne, while Wokingham and Bracknell would be a 5-6km drive away.

But transport officials have given support to the plans, highlighting that there will be a reduction in traffic given there will be no more office workers commuting to and from the site.

The 7,500 facility is one of 23 centres across five continents which hosts more than 140,000 health care professionals.

Rooms inside the Wokingham offices include large auditorium, meeting rooms and a restaurant. The site was first redeveloped as offices in 2006.

It is not known whether the company are moving their offices elsewhere in the UK, or closing the branch.

A consultation period will last until September 10 before a decision is made.
