More delays have been announced for California Crossroads in Finchampstead.

The long-delayed project at the intersection of Finchampstead Road and Nine Mile Ride has caused chaos for residents and neighbouring businesses.

Now, Wokingham Borough Council has reported minor delays to the reopening of the crossroads after hopes it would be completed today (August 23).

The council said: “We had hoped to get the crossroads open this week, with traffic lights, while we finished the rest of the work.

“However, some additional drainage and access issues are causing the work to take a bit longer to complete.”

The main junction is likely to be opened on Monday, September 2, once drainage work going into Avery Corner car park is finished.

Wokingham Borough Council added that teams are working ‘extra hours to make up for this’ delay.

After September 2, pedestrians and cars will be able to access Avery Corner car park, which has been closed since July 24.

But works in front of shops will carry on past September 2.

This comes as the latest delay to construction on the crossroads, which began in February. Improvements made will make it easier for pedestrians to access local schools, including Nine Mile Ride and Gorse Ride, according to the council.

On August 13, a footpath was removed, leaving only a single route to shops, according to residents.

The council sends regular updates to people in the Finchampstead area affected by the ongoing works, which includes lists of businesses surrounding the crossroads that remain open.
