Bracknell council has been praised for supporting binmen and women after the authority gave them all the Bank Holiday Monday off.

Refuse workers employed by Bracknell Forest Council were all able to enjoy the three-day weekend as the council suspended collections on the Monday.

It is the last Bank Holiday before Christmas, giving people much-needed time to relax before the winter months.

Bracknell Forest Council has announced no bin collections would take place, delaying collections by one day throughout the week.

Some of the team will have to work next Saturday, August 31, to ensure services resume as normal the following week.

The council expressed gratitude for residents' cooperation.

Residents have been commenting on the announcement, celebrating the council for their decision.

Pete White took to Facebook to write: "They do a great job, more than I can say for the Highways Department."

Another local, Peter Islop, commended the team's dedication, stating: "Well done to that team. Hard work. Great service."

While Ann Taylor added: "They do a brilliant job and truly deserved long weekend like most of us - albeit short weekend next."

Despite the respect the sanitation team has earned, some residents expressed concerns about the Bank Holiday rescheduling.

Alan Vaughan observed: "To give them a well-deserved break, they'll be working next Saturday.

"No skin off our nose of course, but doesn't seem like much of a bargain for them."

His sentiment was mirrored by Andrea Hathaway who noted: "Have an extra day off and take it back the next weekend, hardly a bonus."
