Ascot Volunteer Bureau (AVB), comprising approximately 30 local drivers and administrators, urgently needs more volunteers to drive elderly residents to medical appointments.

The dedicated group ensure the transportation and return of Ascot, Sunninghill, Sunningdale and Cheapside residents to medical facilities, be it doctor's surgeries or clinics or dentists, providing invaluable support and reassurance.

Despite having been established for over 30 years, the Bureau currently can’t operate on weekends or work fixed days as they're reliant solely on volunteers.

"The Bureau would like to do even more, but that depends on the number of drivers available," said a representative of AVB.

AVB offers a personalised service, including waiting for the client during their appointment and ensuring their safe return home.

However, due to volunteers using their own cars, they are unable to accommodate those who are wheelchair-dependent.

In the last year, AVB has completed over 1,000 journeys for clients over the age of 65 without personal transport.

"But loyal clients regularly comment on how much they value the service," stated the representative, indicating the impact this service offers these elderly residents.

Those interested in volunteering for AVB or registering for the service can visit the website at ascotvolunteerbureau.org.uk or contact their helpline at 01344 625520, which is monitored daily.

Together, we can make a notable difference in supporting our local elders, breaking down barriers to medical support, and fostering a sense of community.
