Wokingham Town Council and Wokingham Lions Club are set to revive a traditional boundary walk as part of dual birthday celebrations.
With both entities turning 50 years old in 2024, the council approached the Lions Club, who already organise the Wokingham Walk, to help make the walk a reality.
The Beating the Bounds walk will take place on Sunday, September 8, and will start between 9am and 10.30am.
Three routes will be available to suit people of different walking abilities.
The Wokingham Society have added to the walk by providing information on 56 points of historical interest.
Participants will be able to scan QR codes at points along the routes, to view the information on their mobile phones.
All routes are marked, but walkers are encouraged to download interactive maps onto their phones, to be made available on Saturday, September 7 at tinyurl.com/wokybounds
Beating the Bounds 2024 team leader and Wokingham Lions Club member, Andy Slay, also heads up The Wokingham Walk team.
He said: "The three routes will intercept the boundary at various locations and will be marked by wooden boundary markers with 'beating sticks' under the supervision of event stewards.
"We would ask people not to bring their own sticks, as selected seasoned wood sticks have been sourced to minimise the risk of splintering.
"The longest walk is 13 miles and follows most of the perimeter of Wokingham Town Council’s administrative area - the exact boundary cannot be walked due to inaccessibility in some areas.
"For people wishing to walk not quite as far, there will be a second walk of approximately seven miles taking in parts of the Town Council boundary that involves more countryside walking for you to enjoy.
"Finally, there is a shorter two mile route which encompasses part of the seven mile route for those who may feel that they just want a shorter stroll.
"Please note that children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult."
