A new classroom building is to be built at Waverley School in Finchampstead.

The private school on Waverley Way has received permission from Wokingham Borough Council to build a detached classroom with two office rooms and two toilets.

The new room will be used for Year 6 pupils, accommodating up to 21 children, a planning application by Adapt Architecture Ltd says.

This follows the demolition of two wooden outbuildings, leaving a space of 39 square metres.

The school would also like to remove and relocate the existing bin storage to provide parking for two cars.

While Year 6 pupils will move into the classroom once constructed, the space used previously by the 11-year-olds will be used as a ‘specialist’ break-out teaching room for all age groups.

Waverley School has indicated that because of this, the student capacity will remain unchanged.

Finchampstead Parish Council raised no objections with the plans.

Waverley Preparatory School and Day Nursery has ranked in the best schools in Berkshire for the past 13 years and has the fifteenth best SAT results in the country.

First opened in 1945, the building was formerly used as a hotel.

It was bought by a group of parents in 1975, whose sons and daughters were attending to school.

It previously applied to Wokingham Borough Council to extend its nursery spaces in 2022. A double garage was converted to provide ten more places for three months to four years old.

It is not clear when the construction of the new classroom will begin.
