A playful cat who loves fetch is seeking a new home after 200 days in a shelter.

Seven-year-old domestic shorthair marvellous Maisie has been in the care of Battersea's Old Windsor centre since February due to changes in her previous owner's circumstances.

Initially shy and reserved, Maisie was placed with a foster carer to help her adjust at her own pace.

Maisie, despite her middle age, has proven to be young at heart, enjoying playtime and then curling up in a sunny spot for a nap.

She slowly began to reveal her playful nature, showing a particular fondness for a blue ball, which she would drop at her foster carer's feet for a game of fetch.

Genevieve Gossage, feline behaviour and training advisor at Battersea, said: "After arriving at Battersea as a timid cat that shied away from attention, Maisie has made great progress during her time with us and will make a wonderful pet for a loving family.

"Despite being in our care for almost eight times the average stay of a Battersea cat, Maisie never lets her spirit falter and is always happy to receive a gentle fuss and play.

"This month we are celebrating rescue dogs and cats like Maisie through Wear Blue for Rescue, so it would be even more special if she found a home this September!"

Maisie is now looking for a patient and understanding owner who will allow her to settle at her own pace.

As a curious cat who loves to explore outdoors, Maisie would appreciate a home with a garden where she can roam freely.

Battersea is celebrating "Wear Blue for Rescue" this month, aiming to show love and support for rescue dogs and cats in need of a second chance, both in the UK and globally.

Battersea is a renowned animal welfare charity offering expert care to dogs and cats in need.

In 2023, the charity cared for 2,529 dogs and 2,450 cats across its three centres, which are located in London, Old Windsor, and Brands Hatch, Kent.

Battersea also extends its support to other rescues and animal welfare advocates, sharing knowledge and advice with pet owners.

The charity continues its mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals, aiming to help every dog and cat, everywhere.
