Bracknell Forest’s new specialist school for children with autism now won’t open until March 2027, new council documents have revealed.
The new school is set to be built in the Buckler's Park development in Crowthorne. The project to build the new government is overseen by the government’s department for education, and got the backing of Bracknell Forest Council leaders last September.
Council documents say the school was ‘originally planned to be opened in late 2026’. But they say the department for education now says construction will be completed and the school handed over in March 2027.
The government has also appointed the Propeller Trust academy chain to run the school, which ill be called Forest View and accommodate 100 pupils.
Meanwhile, plans also say a 25-place specialist facility for children with special educational needs launched at Sandhurst this month. And another 25-place facility is set to open at Edgebarrow school in September next year.
Bracknell Forest Council is also appealing for academy trusts to run a new Social, Emotional and Mental Health school, with an application deadline set for the end of this month.
The first children are expected to start at this school in September next year, initially on a temporary site.
