More electric car charging points are coming to Bracknell in a bid to encourage more sustainable travel.
Bracknell Forest Council have outlined their draft Local Transport plan for 2025-2037, which outlines how they will ensure sustainable and effective transport across the borough. This includes improvements to highways, cycle lanes, bus and train services.
The council have already installed 36 charging stations for electric cars across 12 council community car parks.
The authority would like to increase this number during the next decade to promote easier use of Ultra Low Emission Vehicles.
There is a growing network of fast and rapid charging options operated privately, according to the local transport plan report.
As well as this, Bracknell Forest Council has replaced all council owned streetlights with LED lights.
Completed between 2016-2019, these new lights reduce energy usage and costs to contribute to efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
More than 13,000 lights were replaced which has resulted in reduced light pollution.
This comes as other forms of sustainable travel, including by bus, have seen a decline in use during the previous local plan period (2011-2026).
Bracknell Forest Council will consider various incentives and measures to encourage more use of bus services.
Further initiatives will also be implemented to encourage people to walk or cycle around the borough.
Most recently, the council took part in ‘Cycle September’, which gave a prize of £2,000 to residents who logged the most trips taken by bike during the month.
The Local Transport Plan will be considered by the council's Environment and Communities Overview and Scrutiny Panel before seeking approval from the cabinet.
