Tributes have been paid to a Frimley Park Hospital doctor who tragically died in a road traffic incident on the M3 earlier this week.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the motorway at 5.25pm on Tuesday after a vehicle veered off the A325 carriageway near the Ravenswood Roundabout.

The vehicle hit a concrete barrier and went over the bridge, landing on the southbound carriageway of the M3 below.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Surrey Police.

The driver has now been named as Nick Payne, a former chief of Frimley Park Hospital's emergency department.

Mr Payne had recently been working as an Emergency Department Consultant in Surrey, after working as Chief of Service for the emergency department at Frimley Park for six years.

His passing has led to an outpouring of tributes and condolences for his friends and family, with a floral tribute placed at the scene of the incident.

Posting a tribute on social media, one person said: "So sad...condolences to his family and his work colleagues. He was a very talented and brilliant doctor.

"He always had time for everyone."

Another added: "Unique, with the warmest heart - RIP Nick."

"Such, such sad news," another poster commented. "He will be missed by all his Frimley Park Family.

"Condolences to his family at this very sad and difficult time."

Surrey Police is appealing for any information that may assist the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Officers are focused on tracing the movements of a black BMW I3 prior to the collision.

A spokesperson for the force said: "If you were in the area between 5.20pm and 5.25pm yesterday evening and witnessed the collision, or you have CCTV, dash cam or helmet cam footage that might have captured any part of this incident, please get in touch quoting PR/45240112326."
