Wokingham Borough Council is inviting comments from residents about the recently approved Local Plan.

The local plan is a key document that sets out how housing will be delivered in the most effective way across the borough until 2040.

It has outlined three major sites for development, in Arborfield, Shinfield, and Loddon Valley. It also contains a number of potential sites for housing, including the current council offices at Shute End.

The plan was recently given approval by councillors, despite the conservative’s attempt to remove thousands of homes at Hall Farm from the plan.

Now, members of the public can comment on the plan, but these can only be based on the ‘legal compliance and soundness’ of it.

Comments must only be given based on four points set out in the National Planning Policy Framework. These are whether it was positively prepared, is justified, effective and consistent with national policy.

Consultations over the sites in the plan were already taken from 2016 onwards.

After this consultation period, the plan will go to a government inspectorate, who will decide whether to give it a final seal of approval.

Once adopted, a local plan should secure better certainty over planning decisions, as there are clear rules over where houses can and cannot be built.

The document, at over 1,000 pages, is available on Wokingham Borough Council’s website, or hard copies are available at the offices on Shute End.

Representations can be made until Wednesday, November 13.
