Ascot residents may be getting access to a new recycling centre as their closest is at risk of being closed down.
Surrey County Council are considering permanently shutting Bagshot Swift Lane Community Recycling centre, which serves as the closest recycling point for those living in Ascot, Sunninghill and Sunningdale.
The authority is recommending the closure claiming it cannot be made fit for the future due to being difficult to access, unmodernised and too small to be upgraded.
But concerns were raised by MP for Windsor Jack Rankin, who said if closed, the nearest alternative sites for affected residents would be more than ten miles away.
Now, Surrey County Council has confirmed that if the Bagshot site indeed closes, residents from the Royal Borough will be able to use the Lyne Community Recycling Centre.
This would be a 20-minute drive away from Ascot, compared to the ten-minute journey to the Bagshot centre.
Otherwise the closest sites for use of Royal Borough residents are in on White Hart Road, Slough, and Stafferton Way, Maidenhead – both between 11 and 12 miles away.
Mr Rankin also claimed that there had been ‘no reference’ to how neighbours in the Royal Borough would be affected in a letter to the leader of Surrey County Council.
The chief executive of Surrey County Council told him that the Royal Borough had been contacted four times since September 11.
A meeting will take place between the two authorities on October 21.
