FARE Eatery has opened in Wokingham's town hall, known for its community presence since 1860.

The new food spot is a creation of Truffle Hunting, led by ex-Fat Duck director Nigel Sutcliffe and former Young Chef of the Year James McLean.

Michelin star pedigree is continued with former Hand & Flowers chef Josh Wilde as head chef.

FARE Eatery is now serving everything from weekend breakfasts to meals in converted 1890s prison cells, once part of the town's police station.

Outside, the Gothic facade has been kept, with a al-fresco terrace complete with vintage, fringed umbrellas as a backdrop.

The restaurant has kept the town hall's architectural features, such as arched windows and polished wood tables, hardwood floors and leather topped seats.

The 38-cover interior has been designed by the London based design practise, House Nine, using pistachio washed walls and deep red velvet banquette seating.

Mr Wilde, the head chef, has developed a 'modern, daily-updated menu' using ingredients from the Berkshire countryside.

The restaurant's robata grill, a Japanese-style grill, gives the food a distinctive smoky flavour.

Some of the dishes on offer include cheese custard with caramelised onion and fried potato; grilled scallop, tikka sauce and tomato chutney; and a barbequed beetroot salad.

FARE Eatery also serves a weekend breakfast, with options such as an expertly-sourced FARE Full English and apple crumble porridge.

On Sundays, the restaurant offers a selection of Robata Roasts, including slow-cooked Stokes Marsh Farm beef served with a shin croquette and horseradish cream.

For dessert, customers can choose from a range of options including a Chocolate and Malt Cheesecake with lime curd, and a boozy Amaretto Baba with spiced pear and vanilla cream.

The drinks menu changes regularly, featuring ales and IPAs from suppliers like Old Amersham Gin and Siren Craft Brew.

The carefully curated wine selection, featuring sustainable, natural, organic, and biodynamic wines from various producers, is available by the bottle, carafe, and glass.

All of these have been curated by Mr Sutcliffe.

The Icons section is available for those looking to buy a gift, with a limited collection of reds and whites.

This includes a £70 bottle of 2023 Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand, to a £325 bottle of 2020 Tignanello from Tuscany.

FARE Eatery opens into Wokingham Market on Saturday mornings, making it a perfect stop for shoppers.
