A host of year 7 Papplewick's boys set off for an adventurous week in Burgundy.
The trip, organised at Maison Claire Fontaine, aimed to immerse the boys in French language and culture.
The week was filled with activities designed to boost their confidence and prepare them for Year 8.
The boys' schedule was packed with exciting activities, starting with archery and a tree assault course, which tested their agility and courage.
These were conducted in French to help them learn specific vocabulary.
The boys also visited the historic Château de Bussy-Rabutin, where they explored the site and participated in a factual relay race through the maze.
A favourite for many was the French cooking session, where the boys donned aprons and homemade hats to prepare Tartouillat, a traditional Burgundy fruit tart.
The adventure continued with a kayaking session on the picturesque Lac du Crescent.
Some boys took an unexpected dip while navigating the open water.
The boys also visited the Marché de Vermenton, where they interacted with local vendors in French, purchasing fresh produce to make their own lunch at Maison Claire Fontaine.
They gave presentations in French about their ingredients, with staff judging their language skills and the presentation of their dishes.
The week concluded with a restaurant meal, where the boys proudly ordered their dishes in French.
A prize-giving ceremony wrapped up the trip, recognising the boys who showed the most effort and character throughout the week.
Arty and Oscar were elected ambassadors, embodying the values of Maison Claire Fontaine.
Headmaster Tom Bunbury said: "The Year 7 boys returned to Papplewick with memories that will last a lifetime, along with greatly increased confidence and proficiency in French.
"It is always a very special and enjoyable experience for them, and sampling French food, of course, always goes down a treat."
The trip was not only an opportunity for the boys to learn and practice French but also helped to instil a love for the language and culture.
This unique experience of learning through adventure, teamwork, and fun, is aimed at giving the boys a head start in their language skills and cultural understanding for the coming academic year.
