A popular pub in Barkham would like to extend its opening hours after plans to expand into a hotel were scrapped.

Ye Olde Lethearn Bottel in Barkham has applied to open from 9am on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, serving customers for an extra two hours in the morning.

Management of the site Sprit Pub Company Limited would also like to serve alcohol from 9am as part of the application.

The pub on Barkham Road currently serves breakfast from 10:15am to 11am on Fridays and Saturdays. It is also open for lunch, dinner every day of the week and roast dinner on Sunday.

It is run under the Chef and Brewer Collection, which owns 149 ‘traditional countryside’ pubs across the UK.

Drinks served include a range of beers on tap and wine, alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.

It will remain open until 11pm on a Monday through to Saturday and closes half an hour earlier at 10:30pm on a Sunday.

Ambitions to expand the business into a hotel were quashed in August after planning permission was refused by Wokingham Borough Council.

Management wanted to build a 13-bedroom hotel on the site, as well as make major changes to the internal layout.

Plans included remodelling the kitchen and inside dining area.

But planning officials at the council refused the plans on the grounds that it would negatively impact the ‘green route of Barkham Road’.

Neighbours said that it would ‘completely change the look and feel for the area’ which is surrounded by green countryside fields.

Consultation on the extended hours for the pub ended on October 30 and a decision from Wokingham Borough Council’s licensing officials is pending.
