A dog owner has been ordered to pay vet fees after their dog attacked sheep in Bracknell.

An officer from Thames Valley Police's Rural Crime Taskforce was called after a report of a dog chasing and injuring sheep in the area.

A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police said: "The owner was identified and issued a community resolution, ordering to pay the vet fees for the sheep which were injured."

A community resolution order aims to resolve a minor offence or anti-social behaviour incident through an informal agreement between the parties involved, as opposed to progression through the traditional criminal justice process.

Earlier this year, Thames Valley Police urged dog walkers to use a lead around fields with livestock due to numerous incidents of sheep being injured.

In conjunction with the National Sheep Association (NSA), Thames Valley Police has been placing signs around dog-walking areas which contain livestock to warn people.

Releasing a statement online, police said: “Last year we had numerous incidents of dogs worrying sheep, and injuring them.

“Thankfully these incidents, whilst rare, do however have an impact on the animals and can negatively affect pregnant sheep and lambs especially.

“As a general rule if you and your dog pass through a field with livestock in, please use a lead on your dog, it is not enough to expect perfect recall.”
