Thousands of pounds of the council’s budget was spent on Christmas lights in Bracknell, the News can reveal.

As we gear up for another festive season, Freedom of Information data reveals a total of £10,000 was spent on lights and decorations across the town.

This includes brand new lights, trees and maintenance and repairs across the town.

When asked to break down the costs, the council merely said that this money was for lights and decorations in town.

In comparison to other town’s across Berkshire, Bracknell is one of the most frugal when it comes to providing Christmas decorations to celebrate the season.

The neighbouring borough of Wokingham has spent over £30,000 for their lights and decorations. This includes 26 trees, brand new lights and maintenance and repairs for the town.

Unlike other town’s where the town centre is managed by the council, Bracknell’s town centre is made up of the Lexicon shopping complex which offers the most spectacular array of decorations and entertainment.

The Christmas lights and decorations at the Lexicon – Bracknell high street - are funded by businesses and retailers that reside within the shopping complex.

The Christmas lights were switched at The Lexicon on Thursday, November 14 with hundreds of residents showing up to celebrate the beginning of the festive period.

The Lexicon alongside Bracknell Forest Council has organised a variety of events over the course of the next two months in the run-up to Christmas.
