The Wokingham Winter Carnival has been cancelled due to high and unpredictable winds.
The annual Christmas celebration was set to take place on Sunday, November 24 in Wokingham Town Centre offering a host of stalls, rides and entertainment.
After receiving guidance by Wokingham Borough Council, the organisors made the difficult decision to cancel the carnival.
The Winter Carnival is organised by The Wokingham Lions Club.
A spokesperson from the Wokingham Lions Club said: "Wokingham Lions Club are very disappointed to announce that the Wokingham Winter Carnival 2024 is being cancelled. The high winds being forecast for this Sunday would not allow us to put up the stage, operate the fairground and would be dangerous for our stallholders.
“We are very sorry that the town will miss its annual Winter Carnival, but in conjunction with guidance received from Wokingham Town Council , keeping visitors and participants safe has to be our first priority.
“We realise that this is disappointing not only for those who were looking forward to attending the event, but also for the many charities and voluntary organisations who would have used the event to raise funds.”
The Saturday’s town market on Saturday, November 23 has also been cancelled.
Organisers added: “If you have purchased a ticket to visit Santa’s Grotto at First Days, please be aware that as this is indoors it will be continuing as scheduled - note that tickets are sold out so please don’t attend if you don’t have a ticket.
“Many of the town’s businesses will still be open - many of whom were opening especially for the Carnival.”
