A new health shop could be opening in Wokingham after plans were submitted to the council.

Health food retailer Grape Tree has submitted plans to move into 1-2 Bush Walk in Wokingham town centre.

It would become the third health food store to open in the town which has undergone major regeneration in recent years.

Grape Tree sells vegan and organic foods along with wellbeing products in 132 stores across the UK.

Other nearby locations include Reading, Maidenhead and Windsor.

Applicants are proposing new advertisement for the Grade II listed building, and would make no internal or external changes to the site.

The site was most recently the home for the Wokingham poppy appeal and was formerly the Bush Hotel.

Plans submitted to Wokingham Borough Council indicate Grape Tree would like a ten-year lease in Grade II listed building.

It said it would ‘replicate its corporate identity within the bounds of the conservation standards’ required for applications on listed buildings.

The shopfront and inside of the store will be painted white, with Grape Tree’s lilac logo used in advertisement upon the entrance.

It will be joining similar stores in Wokingham town centre including Holland and Barrett and Vitality Health Foods.

The Bush Walk site had previously been leased by popular food chain Pret a Manger, but plans never came to fruition.

It was reported that changes required to the site, including installing a kitchen, were not approved due to the listed building status.

Planning permission is yet to be granted by Wokingham Borough Council.
