Hellebore Day

WHEN I started Hellebore Day in memory of my daughter Hannah, I never imagined it would become such a diary highlight for garden lovers. I open the gates to Bosvigo House in Cornwall every year and it’s become a celebrated horticultural event attracting visitors from across the country. Hellebores are a delicate and early-flowering relative of the buttercup and I’ve been growing them here for almost 30 years. As one of the foremost breeders of hellebores, I find immense joy in their irresistible and jewel like colours and sharing them with other flower enthusiasts. I’ll be opening my garden at Bosvigo House to the public on Saturday 26 February from 10am until 4pm for Hellebore Day 2022 in aid of Shelter Box. It’s a fitting tribute to Hannah - a talented artist who loved colour. My daughter died in the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 and so I know what it’s like to be in a situation when things are taken away from you, to be caught up in a disaster on that scale.
