For many, this is a busy and joyous time, a chance to celebrate with family and friends. It is a time to reflect on the past 12 months, and to look forward to fresh opportunities in the new year.

This time of year can also be difficult for many people. Those who are lonely, grieving or struggling financially may find the festive season especially difficult.

However, I’m so proud of the efforts our community makes to lighten the load. Our volunteers and local groups work so hard and give so willingly to help others.

On Sunday, December 10, I visited Catherine, who runs the Bracknell Toy Bank, along with her wonderful team of volunteers, all ensuring that families in need have some festive cheer this Christmas. The donations received from residents were incredible.

I would like to thank everyone in Bracknell Forest for making it a wonderful place to live, work and visit all year round.

A very special thanks to those of you giving up your celebrations and family time to help others over the next few weeks.

If you find a spare few minutes, I invite you to have your say on the council’s proposed 2024/25 budget. You can find the budget proposals and tell us your thoughts by visiting www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/consultations.

A full public consultation will run until Tuesday, 23 January 2024. I encourage all residents to get involved and have your say.

To hear more of your thoughts, we will also be visiting key locations over the next six weeks to gather your feedback, which will help us refine the budget before it is agreed in February. More information on where you can find us will be coming soon.

I’d like to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
